“Violence in the land: Returning to God’s Covenant of Accountability”

Teaching Aim

To help believers understand the parallels between Noah’s era and today’s society, and to call the church back to God’s covenant of justice, restraint, and accountability.

Key Scriptures

Genesis 6: 11-13 – The earth was filled with violence.
Genesis 9: 5-6 – God requires accountability for Violence.
Matthew 24: 37 – As it was in the days of Noah.
Romans 12: 17-21 – Overcome evil with good.
Micah 6-8 – Do justice, love mercy, walk humbly.

Teaching Points

Violence in Noah’s Day – It was normalized, celebrated, and unrestrained.
God’s Response – He judged corruption. but preserved a remnant.
The Covenant of Accountability – God commanded humans to restrain violence
and uphold justice.
Parallels to 2026 – Political unrest, social hostility, mass shootings, online and in-person aggression, and moral numbness.
The Church’s Assignment – To model righteousness, truth, and peace.

Reflection Questions

Where do you see “violence of the heart” in today’s culture?
How can believers practice accountability without becoming judgmental?
What does it look like to be a “Noah” in 2026?

Action Steps

Pray for discernment.
Practice peace in speech and online/in-person behavior.
Advocate for justice in your community.
Teach your household God’s covenant values.
