“The Statue of Liberty: A Call to the Tired, the Poor, and the Brokenhearted”
Beloved,
Today I write to you from a sacred place of remembrance-a place where stone, copper, and flame have become a sermon. The Statue of Liberty stands not merely
as a monument of a nation, but as a witness of God’s heart toward the weary, the wandering, and the wounded. She is a symbol of welcome, but also a symbol of
divine invitation.
Her torch is a reminder that even in the darkest seasons, God still raises a light to guide His people home.
Her crown-seven rays-whispers of completion, fullness, and the perfect work of God.
Her stance, firm and unshaken, declares that freedom is not a political idea; it is a
spiritual inheritance.
A Scripture to Anchor the Heart
Isaiah 61: 1
“He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives….”
Liberty is not just a national promise-it is a Kingdom promise. And God is still calling
His children into the wide-open space of His grace.
A Word for the Tired, the Poor, and the Heavy-Laden
From the base of Liberty Island, a cry has echoed for generations-a cry that mirrors the cry of God’s own heart.
“Give me your tired, your poor….”
This is not just the voice of a statue. This is the voice of a Savior.
This is the voice of the One who said,
“Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are
heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
This is not just the voice of the One who gathers the forgotten, the overlooked, the
misjudged, the displaced, and the discouraged-and calls them His own.
A Teaching Moment of the Soul
The tired God restores your strength.
The poor God enriches your spirit.
The huddled masses God gathers you into His arms.
The tempest-tossed-God calms your storm.
The rejected God sets you in a place of honor.
The Statue of Liberty may stand at the edge of a harbor, but God stands at the edge of
your life, calling you into a new beginning.
A Prophetic Declaration
I declare over you today:
You will not drown in the waters you have crossed.
You will not be lost in the storms you have survived.
You will not be forgotten in the places you have been looked.
God is lifting a torch over your life, and the light will not go out.
Reflection Questions
What part of your life feels “tired” right now?
Where do you need God to proclaim liberty?
What storm has tossed you, and what light
is raising for you today?
Closing Blessing
May the God who welcomes the weary welcome you today.
May the God who lifts the broken lift you today.
May the God who shines through darkness shine upon your path today.
And may His tort-not made of copper, but of glory-guide you safely home.
In His Light,
Debra Stith
